Marlins help Johnson to 13th victory

Facing the Mets typically brings out the best in Marlins ace Josh Johnson.

Even on a night where he wasn’t as sharp as normal, the 25-year-old right-hander was effective enough to keep the Marlins in striking distance of the playoffs.

Johnson struck out seven and allowed three runs in six innings, and the Marlins held off the Mets, 5-3, on Wednesday night in front of 16,123 at Land Shark Stadium.

Ronny Paulino added a two-run homer as Florida took the first two games of the series.
